One thing ‘all’ Americans do differently

Americans hold the reputation for leaning against anything and everything: most of them have admitted to doing it consciously or unconsciously.

In fact, CIA chief Gina Haspel revealed that they train Americans to avoid leaning when they are working undercover abroad, as it’s a major giveaway of their national identity.

The ‘American Lean’ is a topic widely discussed on social media with Europeans and people elsewhere in the world trying to make sense of the popular posture.

One American TikTok user said she does it all the time and never thought of it as a big deal while suggesting that Europeans should do it too.

Highlighting its benefits Danni G said, you can do the American lean when you’re “bored” and it “takes the stress off your feet” by shifting weight on different legs.

She further argued that the position is extremely comfortable and shouldn’t be among the things about Americans that are viewed as problematic.

Several videos on TikTok showcase Americans in different countries as they are easily spotted just by their standing position.

They are either leaning on something or standing with one of the legs stuck out, slightly slouched. This may seem abnormal to Europeans because they are known for standing with their backs straight and rarely would you find someone slouching or leaning in a public setting.
