Target’s new spring dresses with ‘slits’ on the hip called out as ‘inappropriate’ for kids

TikTok user Meghan Mayer posted a video showcasing a collection of spring 2024 dresses at Target. The collection was for young girls and the floral styles contained ‘slits’ on either side, something the “conservative” mother felt was inappropriate to say the least.

Social media users are weighing in on the discussion about what is appropriate and what isn’t after the woman said she wouldn’t allow her daughters to show that much skin.

Target’s spring dresses for girls draw criticism

The clothes in question were found in Target’s children’s section for girls aged between 6 and 7. The pink and blue frocks with abstract and floral prints have sleeves that extend to the elbow and look modest at first.

Meghan initially described them to be “cute”, until she discovered slits on both sides of every dress. The expandable openings seem big enough to fit a wrist as the lady shows in her video.

The TikTokker said she had issues with “holes” in little girls’ frocks, because they exposed the skin. She thought the dresses were adorable and perfect for Easter but the slits put her off.

The TikTok user admitted to being a conservative who doesn’t allow her daughters to even wear bikinis and she wouldn’t want to see them in Target’s spring dresses either.

She also accepted that they may be “overthinking”, but several users have supported her argument while calling out the girls’ clothing as “inappropriate”.

Users divided over the mother’s remarks about ‘slits’

The Target dresses are scrutinized by two kinds of people – those who support Meghan’s conservative opinion against skin show and the rest who believe that the spring collection isn’t inappropriate.

Like the TikTok user, several women are skeptical about allowing their girls clad in dresses that expose their hips from the sides. Whereas, people with opposing opinions have stated their own clothing choices as examples to defend Target’s collection.

When one user commented: “I completely agree. My daughter is 4 and is in a 6/7. Absolutely inappropriate.”

“When I was a kid in the ’70s I wore halter tops and tube tops they were not seen as big deals. I dont think this is scandalous,” opined another.

Adding to the above comment one user wrote: “Unpopular opinion, I think theyre cute.” But another user argued: “Im 17 and thats something I would see other people my age wearing, thats crazy.”
