How to claim your AT&T credit following national outage
AT&T is offering their customers $5 worth of credit after their services experienced a nationwide shortage last week.
Technology is great when it works, but customers tend to feel a unique type of rage when those services go down with little to no information. Such anger was seen across the US last week as DownDetector reported numerous mobile network platforms were experiencing issues.
AT&T went down on Thursday

On February 22, Americans flocked to social media to complain that their devices were showing SOS online where their service bars would usually be. Though this simply meant the network was down, many conspiracy theories suddenly popped up with people questioning if AT&T had experienced a cyber attack.
On Saturday, the network shared a statement after many customers were left feeling abandoned with little information as their lives were affected.
“We have restored wireless service to all our affected customers,” they said. “We sincerely apologize to them. Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future.”
Following their apology, many customers demanded some sort of payback for the trouble.
One person wrote on Twitter: I hope my bill will be reduced this month.
What are we going to do with an apology? Cover our next bill, another said.
The network listened to demands
Following the outcry, AT&T offered an additional statement further apologizing for the outage and also offering $5 in credit, which they said was basically a full days coverage.
They said in a press release: To help make it right, were reaching out to potentially impacted customers and were proactively applying a credit* to their accounts. We want to reassure our customers of our commitment to reliably connect them anytime and anywhere. We’re crediting them for the average cost of a full day of service.
Were also taking steps to prevent this from happening again in the future. Our priority is to continuously improve and be sure our customers stay connected.
How to claim your credit
Thankfully, AT&T customers dont have to do anything to reap the benefits. If your device was affected by the national outage, AT&T will be automatically dishing out the $5 in two billing cycles.
Unfortunately, customers have taken the response as an insult, with many suggesting AT&T should have forked out more money.
People couldn’t make money and you offer $5? In 2023, ranked 13th on the Fortune 500 rankings of the largest United States corporations, with revenues of $120.7 billion and you offer your customers $5? one person said.
Another person ranted: The AT&T disaster continues! Now they are issuing $5 to users impacted by this week’s outage (yes, 5 whole dollars) and it will take 1-2 billing cycles to appear. The stress and anxiety ALONE from this warrants a higher credit. Such a tone deaf response.
$5 account credit when there are multiple phones on peoples plans that were impacted is ridiculous and insulting, someone else said.
