Spotify users vow to ‘cancel accounts’ as Apple Music tests ‘game-changing’ feature

Unlike in the world of TV streaming, where people may own multiple subscriptions all at once, the same is less likely for music where most will be subscribed to either Spotify or Apple Music.

However, a feature that Apple Music is reportedly testing could be about to bring a colossal shift to the music streaming industry and has left some Spotify users vowing to cancel accounts should it be officially introduced.

Apple Music tests playlist transfer feature

A big deterrent for switching between music streaming services is the laborious process of recreating your favorite playlists that youve built up on one service over the years.

Third-party app SongShift has been a helpful workaround in this regard as it allows the ability to transfer playlists between music platforms, albeit with a number of added steps.

Now, a recent report from 9to5Mac has highlighted a Reddit thread where users have reported that Apple Music on Android has seemingly been beta testing a native integration of SongShift into the app itself.

A screenshot from Apple Music shows a pop-up message that reads: Transfer Music from Other Services – Add saved music and playlists you made in other music services to your Apple Music library.

There has been no word from Apple on if or when this feature could be rolled out to all Apple Music users.

Spotify users vow to cancel accounts as social media reacts

The potential to transfer saved playlists from any music platform onto Apple Music has excited many on social media.

One commenter on X (formerly Twitter) said: I would transfer from Spotify pretty quickly if I had this capability I think.

While a second added: Game changer, love it.

I need this feature to finally let go of Spotify, said a third. The great merge of platforms must continue lol.

A fourth commented: This is a brilliant idea. It could make a lot of people happy who are looking for excuses to leave Spotify or other services and switch to Apple Music.

I have both, and for the longest time, I’ve said Spotify was better, began a fifth. In the last year, I can safely say Apple Music has been hitting the mark. Releasing this feature would make me cancel my Spotify account.

And finally, this X user wrote: Just transferred from Spotify to Apple for the quality and the playlists were the worst thing to transfer.
