What does ‘No Borax No Glue’ mean on TikTok?
New slang terms pop up on TikTok every day and the latest one confusing everyone is ‘No Borax No Glue’.

What does ‘No Borax No Glue’ mean?
‘No Borax No Glue’ means that something you want is impossible. For example, one viral video says “How to get over a guy you never dated no borax no glue,” and the woman is saying you can’t – it’s not possible to get over him.
The slang phrase stems from the idea of making slime for fun as a child. To make it, you have to mix together borax and glue, but kids were always trying to find ways to make slime without those two ingredients if they didn’t have them to hand.
So, they would search online ‘how to make slime without borax or glue’, but would not get any answers because it’s impossible to make slime without those two things. This analogy is now being applied to a range of different scenarios.
Analogy goes viral on TikTok
The slang has taken over TikTok in February, with people wishing they could do all kinds of impossible things.
One person wrote: “How to be a teenage girl forever, no borax no glue.”
“How to make money doing absolutely nothing no borax no glue,” said another.
A third person added: “How to not be afraid of the future no borax no glue.”
“How to be enough no borax no glue,” someone else wrote.
It’s one of many new terms to take over social media this month, like ‘band for band’ and ‘SPWM’.
People recall making slime
The trend works so well because loads of people remember failing to make slime as they didn’t have any borax or glue, and many are recalling their childhoods.
One woman remembers being so desperate to make slime that she tried mixing, shampoo and salt and putting it in the freezer, but it never worked.
“Did anyone ever find the magical recipe to do it without the glue or borax? I never did,” another internet user asked.
The slime trend went viral in 2015, when young people began sharing videos of themselves making slime online.
Soon, everyone began making sticky putty by mixing borax, a type of salt, with water and adding food coloring.
