NYPD dance team go viral for all the wrong reasons
The NYPD dance team has divided the internet as some express their anger and others question why they such bad dancers after training two or three times a week.
As reported by the Citizens Budget Commission of New York, the New York Police Department budget is $10.8 billion for 2024. How much is being spent on dance teams is still yet to be revealed.
‘Zero rhythm detected’
The internet can be a cruel and unforgiving place, as seen recently when a clip of the NYPD dance team went viral on TikTok and Instagram. The team, comprised of currently serving officers, stepped out for a performance on PIX11 Morning News where they danced to Flo Ridas Club Can’t Handle Me.
Career public defender Eliza Orlins (@elizaorlins) dubbed the clip crazy and continued to list her reasons against it on TikTok.
Im extremely curious if they are spending taxpayer money on those uniforms. If they are being paid for the time that they are there? If this counts as official business? she ranted. Its another example of copaganda. Look at the NYPD theyre just hanging out, theyre just a cool chill group of people.
On Twitter, another person scathed: NYC crime at an all-time high& people being murdered, shops looted, drugs flooding the streets, homeless crisis and the city is being overrun by illegals&The solution? NYPD Chief: Dance!
Someone else pointed out: Library closed on weekends but we got a NYPD dance team.
The NYPD dance team loves its extracurricular
Speaking to ABC7, dance team vice president Lauren Pagan said: “I’m just answering 911 jobs all day, all day, all day out of roll call until it’s time to go home. Music is amazing. And when I get to sit here and just listen even if it’s the same song over and over, it’s a nice place to be. Everybody here loves to dance. They love being here.”
The group usually meets two to three times a week, training for three hours during each rehearsal. They first formed in 2022.
“It could be the longest, hardest day at work. I come here, the girls are always smiling and it’s just nice,” Pagan added.
Its also worth pointing out that the New York City Police Department has over four dozen competitive groups including knitting and chess. Theres currently no internet humdrum over those.
