Madam Web is an awful superhero film but the memes are top tier
Though Sonys latest superhero venture, Madam Web, has failed to meet expectations, the memes on social media are certainly forming a silver lining to the very dark cloud.
As a Sony project, Madam Web is not connected to the established Marvel Cinematic Universe still pumping out several projects a year. Despite flicks like Deadpool slowly merging with the Disney Universe, Madam Webs inclusion is unlikely due to poor reviews and little appetite for a continuation of the story.
Madam Web earlier reviews were not good
The Sony film takes a slight vacation from comic-accurate lore by portrayingCassandra Webb as an inexperienced clairvoyant instead of the paralyzed elderly hero.
Portrayed by Dakota Johnson, Cassie sets out to protect three young women who have the potential to become Spider-Women later in their lives. The three women, played by Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced, are being hunted by Tahar Rahims Ezekiel Sims.
Despite initial interest in the film, and the ensemble of standout actresses, early reviews for the film have positively bombed. At the time of writing, Madam Web sat on Rotten Tomatoes with a critic score of 15% and an audience score of 59%.
Not quite Morbius bad, but still a bottom-of-the-barrel moment for Sony, wrote Little White Lies journalist Hannah Strong.

Joel Harley from Total Film wrote: Rather than kicking off a new universe of heroes, Madame Web feels more like a failed TV pilot of yore, complete with sluggish action and cheap-looking costumes.
In contrast, Sam Adams from Slate said: Its a travesty, a disaster, a blight on the history of superheroes and cinema itself. I enjoyed the hell out of it.
The film is bad, but the memes are good
Perhaps the one silver lining of the awful adaptation is the plethora of memes that have sprung from social media apps like Twitter and TikTok. Still, though, it’s unlikely that noise on social media will cause Sony to make the Morbius mistake for a second time.
Please, not again
You might remember that Sony’s Morbius was similarly review-bombed upon its release. People hated it so much that memes flooded the internet for weeks, which Sony (for some reason) took as a hint to release it again. It failed.
They gave it a good go
Sony has also released Morbius, Venom, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Maybe they should stop there.
Madam Web herself didn’t take kindly to the viral line
In the film’s initial trailer, a particular line went viral largely because of its poor writing and what critics dubbed “exposition overload.”
He was in the Amazon with my mom researching spiders before she died,” the line read. It has since been used across the internet.
In context, it’s not much better
You’ll only get this if you’re chronically online
During a home tour with Architectural Digest, Dakota admitted that she had an intense love of limes. However, she later revealed that someone had put them there and she was actually allergic.
Spoke too soon
It’s okay, we have all been fooled by decent trailers at some point.
The film even memes itself
