Puppy Bowl’s smallest dog has sadly passed away

The Puppy Bowl is an annualtelevision program on Animal Planet that mimics an American football game similarto the Super Bowl, using puppies.

Shown each year on Super Bowl Sunday, the competition shows a group of puppies playing inside a model stadium with commentary to accompany their actions.

Puppy Bowl 2024 was the show’s 20th anniversary, titled Puppy Bowl XX.

Sweetpea was the all-time smallest dog to feature in Puppy Bowl XX, a tiny Cavapoo weighing only 1.7 pounds, as per IndyStar reports.

On February 11, Animal Planet announced via a broadcast at the end of the Puppy Bowl that Sweetpea had sadly passed away.

The announcement, as well as a post on Twitter/X, showed a photograph of the adorable dog along with the statement:

“Sweetpea was rescued by a shelter that specializes in helping special needs puppies. Sadly, she was unable to overcome her health issues. We dedicate #PuppyBowl XX to her memory.”

Animal Planet has not yet specified the health issues Sweetpea was unable to overcome.

A TikTok creator named @gooddoggytreats shared insights into the competition, explaining that Sweetpea was the smallest Puppy Bowl dog ever.

The Cavapoo, sometimes known as a Cavoodle, is a cross between a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Over the years Cavapoos have become increasingly popular pets due to their playfulness, affectionate nature, and low tendency to shed as My Family Vets explains.

A Cavapoo’s size varies based on whether they have a miniature or toy poodle parent, so height ranges between 914 inches, and weight averages 825 pounds.

Weighing 1.7 pounds, Sweetpea sure was a tiny Cavapoo pup.

In addition to small Sweetpea, Puppy Bowl XX also featured a Great Dane weighing 72 pounds named Levi, who was introduced as the biggest puppy in the competition.

@lucymorgan94 shared footage onto TikTok showing Sweetpea performing during the Puppy Bowl.
