I tried six coffee recipes perfect for life working from home, heres the best

While working from home has its clear advantages, you sometimes miss out on the lunchtime coffee shop opportunities. But dont worry, The Focus has got you covered.

In the spirit of true scientific study, I kept the control methods of the experiment very simple. Each coffee would made in the same, boring glass, and I wasnt to use anything that required a massive amount of time or effort. Each coffee is rated out of five, with five being got so much work done and one being, Im asleep.

With nearly 500k tagged videos on TikTok, whipped coffee is by far the most popular at-home caffeine pick-me-up. While each recipe is different, the premise is to whip up your coffee to cappuccino levels of froth. Usually, this is then poured over a mixture of milk and ice.

I am guilty of having a whipped coffee just before sitting down at my desk. They are relatively quick to make and just the right level of fun. An iced coffee at home has to be fun, otherwise, whats the point?

Vietnamese Coffee 4/5

I followed a tutorial from Cafecito Con Daisy (@CafecitoConDaisy), which started off with two tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. From here, four teaspoons of instant coffee were added alongside a good amount of boiling water. After mixing the potion up, the glass was topped off with ice and milk.

Shocker, it was really sweet, and perhaps not the best for your day-to-day lifestyle. While I usually like a harsher coffee in the morning, I could see myself drinking this when the weather is hot and I’m typing away on my laptop in the garden.

Iced mocha 1/5

In the summer, there is nothing quite like a massive iced mocha with enormous ice cubes and a good dollop of cream. But, trying to make this at home can be more trouble than its worth, as I quickly found out.

One recipe called for me to make a signature chocolate sauce, but lets be honest, we havent got time to do chocolatier training as the Microsoft Teams ringtone is going off. Instead, I opted for another recipe which called for the humble cocoa powder. I quickly discovered why people were melting chocolate, as the flavor wasnt as deep or comforting.

Olive oil latte 3/5

As an essential part of Italian culture, olive oil is often a component of their coffee drinking. Its so popular, that even Starbucks has launched its own range of olive oil-infused drinks

Every recipe I saw stated, very passionately, that only good-quality olive oil should be used. Luckily, Im a bit of an olive oil snob.

I kept the recipe itself very simple and without any additional flavorings. While enjoyable and a welcome change from the standard vanilla and caramel, I couldnt see myself necking a few of these a day. Eat your heat out

Frappuccino 3/5

Frappuccinos are the sexy older sister of the staple milkshake. Yes, they are packed full of sugar, but there are things you can do to minimize the health detriment.

Keeping it simple in line with the experiment rules, I blended diluted instant coffee with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, a scoop of ice, and a splash of milk. While the result was enjoyable, it was also incredibly sickly. The Frappuccino is the perfect choice if you want to look fancy on a Zoom call.

Spanish Coffee 5/5

This coffee should only be drunk once youve finished your working-from-home shift, but it is a welcome embrace following eight-plus hours. Essentially, youre going to mix Kahlua, rum, and coffee in a glass. If you havent shot it already, then top with cream and a cute straw and voila, it looks as good as any Starbucks serving!

The winner: Whipped Coffee

It might be boring, and it might be predictable, but the tried and true whipped coffee is undeniably the winner for working from home. While the sugary embrace of a Frapp’ was fun, and while the uniqueness of the olive oil was exciting, there’s just no beating the TikTok sensation.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
