Punxsutawney Phil has made his official proclamation on Groundhog Day, pointing to an early spring in 2024, so here are some memes to celebrate.�

Groundhogs belong to large ground squirrels known as marmots and are found across much of Canada and North America. Other names for the furry creatures include chuck, wood-shock, groundpig, whistlepig, whistler, thickwood badger, Canada marmot, monax, moonack, weenusk, red monk, and land beaver. Land beaver is definitely the best.�

What is Groundhog Dog?

Groundhog Day is a tradition observed in both America and Canada on February 2 of each year. Its centered around Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow and sees its shadow, it will retreat and winter will continue for at least six more weeks. If the groundhog doesnt see its shadow, Americans can expect an early spring.�

An official ceremony is held at Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, each year, with a groundhog named Phil at the center. Similar celebrations are held in other provinces, each with their own groundhog.�

As reported by AP, Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Vice President Dan McGinley read the following from a scroll Phil picked this morning.�

He said: Another winters slumber paused so I could meet the crowd. Hard to sleep anyway when the partys this loud. I envy your energy, I envy the fun. I envy all of you and your opposable thumbs. But its not what I feel but its what I see and what you hear. So gather round and let me be clear. Atmosphere is a wonderful thing. And we can create our own and the weather it brings. It brings hope for the future and so much more. Maybe some Punxsutawney Phil write-in votes in 2024. But what this weather did not provid. Is a shadow or reason to hide. Glad tidings on this Groundhog Day. An early spring is on the way.
