Target pull Black History Month 2024 item after TikTok users spot a glaring error
Target is removing a piece of merchandise for Black History Month 2024 after TikTok noticed theyd misnamed notable figures in the Civil Rights movement.
We are not even a full 24 hours into Black History Month and enormous chain brands are already slipping up. The glaring errors were brought to light on TikTok, with Target later offering an official statement in response.
What was Target’s Black History month mistake?
In celebration of 2024s Black History Month, Target released a Civil Rights Magnetic Learning Activity book that featured notable Black Americans from history. Unfortunately, the pictures dont match the names.
The blunder was first showcased by TikTok user @Issatete, who teaches U.S. history and majored in social studies at college.
In her TikTok, she said: So I went to get my kids this little magnet learning activity from Target. I dont know who is in charge of Target but these need to be pulled off the shelves like immediately.
One of the first mistakes she pointed out was a magnet of Carter G. Woodson. Only the magnet doesnt depict Woodson, but instead philosopher William Edward Burghardt Du Bois. The magnet of Du Bois also featured a picture of Booker T. Washington.
The mistakes continued as Issatete showed her followers a magnet of Washington with Woodsons likeness.
I get it, mistakes happen, but this needs to be corrected, she added.

On Wednesday, Target issued a statement that read: We will no longer be selling this product in stores or online. Weve also ensured the products publisher is aware of the errors.
Social media is angry
TikTok is understandably frustrated by the mistakes, but some have suggested that the anger should be directed towards the manufacturer, Bendon Books.
One person wrote: This does not surprise me. A few years ago, I bought some Dia de los Muertos stuff from Target, and they spelled stuff wrong and I couldnt use it.
That’s a shame. I hate that they left Dr. Woodson’s and Dr. Du Bois’s titles off, too. They earned those worldly titles, another said, while a third added, Yes!!! I bought for this for my 2nd graders. They noticed immediately. I sent them an email and they said they are looking into it.
