A simple tutorial specifically created for iPhone users has gone viral for showing how to capture the clearest shot of the moon. TikToker Andy Yong has used iPhone 14 Pro Max to get the mesmerizing image of the celestial body leaving his followers dumbstruck and urging others to try as well.

How to get the clearest shot of the moon with an iPhone

Follow the below steps to capture the moon in its clearest form, using just your iPhone.

  1. Go to video mode on the iPhone camera.
  2. Select the ProRes feature on the top left if your device has it.
  3. Zoom in until you can’t anymore and select the exposure option at the bottom represented with plus (+) and minus (-) signs.
  4. Reduce the Exposure to – 2 by dragging it to the left.
  5. Tap on record after reducing the exposure and drag down on your screen to adjust the image of the moon until you start to see the details on it.
  6. Take a screenshot of the moon when it’s in complete focus in the video.

The TikTok user claims the resulting image is better than any captured in the photo mode, which is often blurry when you fully zoom into it. He does note in the caption that “sharpening and editing” was applied in Lightroom to the final screenshot.

The tutorial has gathered over 250,000 views since it was posted two days ago.

Mesmerizing image baffles TikTok users

The easy photo hack has appealed to hundreds and thousands of TikTok users as they never imagined an iPhone could capture the moon in its clearest form.

Reacting to the final image of the moon in the video, one user wrote: “I love how it looks like a watercolor painting”

“Light of a full moon peaks through the clouds,” said another.

A third user added: “This just made my life so much easier.”
