How to do TikTok’s 80s AI Filter and see how you’d look decades ago
The latest AI filter to go viral on TikTok takes you back to the 80s, a decade characterized by huge advances in technology, social change and consumerism.
80s AI Filter takes over TikTok
The viral filter uses artificial intelligence to show how you would look if you were a young adult in the 1980s.
You upload a picture of yourself and the effect does the rest for you, altering your entire appearance while keeping your main features.
It changes your face, hair and clothes, and adds a background to the image which suits the style of the decade perfectly.
The filter makes it look like you’ve stepped straight out of the 80s, and adds a cool before-and-after effect.
How to do the 80s AI Filter
The effect is on a free app called CapCut, so you need to download that first. Then, follow these steps:
- Open TikTok and tap ‘Home’
- Click the magnifying glass at the top
- Search ’80s AI Filter’
- Choose a video that has used the filter
- Tap ‘Capcut | Try this template’
- Press ‘Use template in CapCut’
- You will be redirected to the app
- Choose ‘Use template’
- Upload a photo and press ‘Next’
Two more decade filters to try
The filter comes following two similar TikTok effects which also make it look like you are from a particular decade.
First, the ‘How I Would Look In The 1930s’ Filter went viral which takes you back in time to the interwar period following the Roaring 20s.
The period was characterised by the Great Depression in the United States and the effect takes you back almost 100 years.
After that, an AI 1970s Filter took over the internet which does the same thing but for the post-war baby boom era.
All of them are on CapCut and use artificial intelligence to travel through time. I wonder what era will be next!
