TikTok users warn about Sleepy Girl Mocktail and unpleasant side effect of cherries

What is Sleepy Girl Mocktail on TikTok?

The Sleepy Girl Mocktail is easy to make. Mix a spoonful of magnesium powder in tart cherry juice and any fizzy mixer, like sparkling water or soda, and the magical potion to help you sleep is ready.

The benefits of the strange combination have been discussed for a long time, as TikTok users raved about the impact it had on their sleep.

There is some truth to this claim. Tart cherry juice has a high concentration of melatonin – the hormone that makes you drowsy. The properties of the fruit are believed to draw you into quality sleep.

As for magnesium, it regulates the stress hormones in your body and, when you’re not relaxed, it’s a sign that magnesium is depleted. So, a spoonful of macronutrients will help you feel calm.

A large number of ladies on TikTok gave the Sleepy Girl Mocktail a thumbs up after trying it before bed to achieve a good night’s sleep. But, it seems people are now trying to draw more attention to its possible side effects that were previously overlooked.

Users warn of laxative effect

Those who experienced the side effects of the TikTok mocktail while trying to induce sleep have sworn to never drink it again.

Cherries contain compounds such as fiber, sorbitol, and salicylates, which have a laxative effect when combined. While the juice helps in relieving constipation, its side effects include abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Painful and embarrassing incidents stemming from an upset stomach after drinking the mocktail are serving as a warning about the laxative effects of tart cherry juice and magnesium.

One TikTok user said she had an excessive amount of the Sleepy Girl Mocktail for better sleep, but it backfired on her, literally and figuratively.

One lady’s confession about the Sleepy Girl Mocktail on the Bad Therapy Podcast has gone viral with more than 700,000 views, as she narrates the hard time she had at work when her stomach started to act funny thanks to the drink she had consumed the previous night that helped her “sleep like a rock.”

The viral video is captioned: “Please take this as your sign. Do not believe everything you see on the internet.”

Another user shared: “I slept okay but I had the worst diarrhea too. I made it twice before I realized what was causing it”

“Tart Cherry juice is a MEGA laxative lol,” said another.

As far as the drink’s magical ability to help you sleep is concerned, experts think it may just be a placebo effect.

Dr. Pieter Cohen, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School, told the New York Times: “If the drink seems to work for you, thats probably the placebo effect. Its entirely magical thinking.
