TikTok star, Kala the science girl, who is popularly known as the tunnel girl on the platform, has gone viral on social media after it was revealed that she has been asked to stop digging the underground tunnel.

Social media has become a place where people have the freedom to share their DIY and interest projects. Amid this, some go viral and catch the attention of everyone. Something similar happened with Kala who decided to build an underground tunnel in her home.

Kala the science girl asked to stop digging

Kala, who handles@kalaengineerand@engineer.everything on TikTok, became the talk of the town when she started working on constructing an underground tunnel at her home. However, she faced a sudden obstacle when Kala was asked to stop digging as she did not have the permits that allowed her to do so.

On December 28, 2023, Kala took to TikTok to post a video detailing what had happened. In it, she said: “They did give me a stop work order and are requiring an immediate evaluation by a professional engineer. Fortunately contrary to rumors here, it is constructed entirely below the slab of my house and it shouldnt be too hard to get the permits and approval.

At the moment, Kala has been working hard to ensure that all the permits are to receive a green signal for her project.

Why is she trying to build a tunnel?

As per reports, Kala started working on the project as a way to challenge herself even though it is intended to be a storm shelter. This was not the first DIY construction project that Kala had taken upon herself.

Before coming up with the viral idea of having an underground tunnel, Kala had worked on building a four-story addition to the back of her house.

Opening up about the project, she said: “I wouldnt say doomsday bunker, because Im not really a prepper or concerned about that kind of thing at all, but I just thought it would be neat to have like a little protective shelter area and so I started working on that. And also its a challenge and I live for challenges. It keeps me preoccupied and keeps me entertained.

Social media reacts to sudden obstacle

With a social media following of over 500k followers, people who had been a part of Kala’s journey were quick to express their shock with one writing: “Dont worry Kala we are all supporting you. In Trinidad they say that persons dont throw stones at trees that dont bear fruit you will overcome.”

Another added: “Kala must be protected at all costs! We need her to finish her project since were all invested this far! Good luck Kala!” “They just hate to see a girlboss winning,” read one more comment.

“Those of us who have been here since the beginning have dreaded this day for a long time. Best of luck,” wrote one more.
