Dermatologist shares 5 things she would never do that you shouldn’t too
A board-certified dermatologist’s TikTok video has baffled viewers as she revealed the five things she would never do as most of them are routinely practiced in our daily lives. But, little did we know they could be so harmful.
Female users in particular are shocked upon realizing the negative impact of heating pads on their health as it is a common practice to reduce period cramps and discomfort by warming up the body using the external source of heat. Dr. Jean Charles says that could result in rashes among other serious complications.

5 things the dermatologist would never do
Make a note of these pointers from TikTok as they seem life-changing. The five things Jean, as a dermatologist, would refrain from doing should be avoided by us too.
- Picking on warts – Jean says picking on warts is the worst idea as it only causes more complications. You should avoid picking or chewing on warts as they are caused due to a viral infection, which spreads easily when triggered. The best solution is to use over-the-counter medication such as Compound W on the affected area and cover it with duct tape at night. Remove the tape in the morning and if the wart doesn’t go away in a couple of weeks, see a doctor.
- Overusing heating pads or space heaters – The heat generated from these devices when used for a prolonged time will not only cause rashes and result in permanent discoloration of your skin but in some instances, can also cause a type of skin cancer.
- Do not use flushable wipes – Jean recommends against using flushable wipes while cleaning down there. The fragrances and preservatives in the wipes can cause allergies and itchy rashes, which we imagine you wouldn’t want to experience.
- Avoid using natural deodorants – Yes, this goes against the popular opinion about natural deodorants being a safer option. Still, the scent and essential oils added to make them smell good can cause a lot of hypersensitivity and rashes when they come in contact with the skin on your underarms.
- Do not walk around barefoot – Walking around barefoot, especially in public spaces, can cause foot fungus, warts, and other complications. So, always make sure to cover your feet or have slippers on when you’re walking around at home to stay safe.
TikTok users are taken aback by the facts
While thanking Dr Jean for sharing facts about skincare routines that can change their lives, several users appear to be surprised as they never thought their nonchalant habits can be so dangerous to their health.
One commented: “Yall replace the wipes with a Bidet! Life changing.”
“I am not going to lay on my heat pad on full blast again,” wrote another.
A third user commented: “I never knew picking on warts was so dangerous. Thanks Jean,” read one comment.
