‘I Want Something That I Want’ TikTok trend is born out of a hilarious movie scene
You may be one of those scratching your heads about the new TikTok trend that sees users dancing to the song I Want Something That I Want if you haven’t watched a famous scene from Melissa McCarthy’s movie, Tammy. And no, the latest challenge isn’t only for women to participate in.

‘I Want Something That I Want’ TikTok trend explained
The trend is simple. The song I Want Something I Want by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals from Tangled plays in the background as users dance to it – but all of them follow the same choreography, inspired by a funny movie scene.
Some users are enacting different situations that go with the lyrics of the song, adding a funny touch to the challenge. One female TikTok user participates in the trend to depict her mood during “that time of the month” when your cravings shoot through the roof and you just want what you want.
And, couples are hopping on the trend to mock each other’s demands within the relationship and outside of it, funnily imitating their partner’s reactions when they don’t get what they want.
There is no hard and fast rules for the I Want Something I Want trend – it is rather treated as a mood.
Hilarious scene from Melissa McCarthy’s film inspires the challenge
The signature choreography of the trend draws inspiration from Melissa’s 2014 comedy film, Tammy.
The hilarious scene depicts her character, Rob, at a fast food joint as Gangster’s Paradise blazes in the background. She has a paper bag over her head and another wrapping her hand to make it look as if she’s carrying a gun.
This precise scene is imitated in the TikTok trend, followed by another that appears to be improvised by the person who originally started the challenge. If you wish to watch the entire scene before trying the challenge, Tammy is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies and other streaming platforms.
Reacting to the trend, a fan of Melissa wrote: “I now need Melissa McCarthy to do this thats my Christmas wish.”
“I’m so confused about this trend. I really don’t get it. But it damn fun to see,” said another.
A third user commented: “I havent even seen the original and I agree this has Melissa McCarthy written all over it.”
