Way Americans vote in ‘random box’ on the street leaves Brit ‘genuinely shocked’
In the run-up to the presidential election, a Brit has just discovered that Americans can vote in a ‘random box’ on the street – and is ‘genuinely shocked’.
The discovery came after Selena Gomez shared a photo of herself casually casting her vote in a red gown on the way to the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiere.

In the picture, Gomez is standing next to a white and yellow ballot box that’s sitting on a normal Los Angeles street. On the front, it says people can cast their vote there right up until 8pm on Election Day, which is Tuesday, November 5.
A British person responded to the image of the actress on X and wrote in disbelief: “I’m sorry do Americans just..drop their ballot into a random box on the street????”
In the comments, Americans confirmed that yes, they really can vote in ballot boxes which are placed on a normal road.
They are called ballot drop boxes, which provide a “secure and convenient means for voters to return their mail ballot,” the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) claims.
The secure, locked structures are operated by election officials and allow voters to deliver
their ballots from the time they receive them in the mail up to when the polls close. Most are unstaffed and available 24 hours a day, permanently anchored in place for many weeks.
The Brit found the discovery absolutely mind-blowing, reiterating: “I’m genuinely shocked you guys do this.”
In the UK, voting can only take place in person with photo ID or by post using a ballot paper, which is sent via the normal posting system, not in a ballot box. You can also nominate someone else to vote on your behalf.

The X user then asked: “Cant tell if im being dumb but surely anyone can just&fiddle with the ballots then??”
Well, yes they can! This week there have been ballot box fires across the States, with people setting fire to all the votes inside and destroying them.
Fires have taken place in Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon, and many other states have issues warnings.
On X, even Americans are calling the ballot box system “unbelievable,” “crazy” and “insane”!
