Smart new iPhone feature lets you record phone calls with Apple Intelligence
Have you ever wished you could record a phone call? Perhaps your partner is listing things you need to buy from the shops or your friend is telling you some juicy gossip and you want to remember every detail. Well, soon you can!
There’s a brand new iPhone feature coming with Apple’s newest update, iOS 18.1, at the end of October, which lets you record phone calls from anyone, but there’s a catch – only some people will be able to do it. Read on to find out if that’s you.

Hidden new iPhone feature lets you record phone calls
After almost two decades, you will finally be able to record phone calls without having to use Voice Memos on another device. The feature is coming with Apple Intelligence, the tech giant’s new artificial intelligence system.
Apple Intelligence will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. If you have one of those devices, you can record calls with just one click, but beware – the other person will be notified.
When you start recording a call, a robotic voice says, “This call is being recorded” as the message also pops up on the screen. If someone doesn’t want to be recorded, they can simply end the call as soon as the notification appears.
Apple has confirmed that iOS 18.1 is coming in the last week of October, and it’s speculated to arrive on Monday 28, Tuesday 29 or Wednesday 30.
How to record calls with Apple Intelligence
If you have a supported device, here’s how to record phone calls:
- Call someone
- Select the ‘Record’ button in the top left
- A recording box will appear with a timer
- Click the red square to stop recording
- The recording will save in your Notes
If you don’t have the ‘Record’ button, you may need to turn on Apple Intelligence by going to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
You can transcribe phone calls too
Not only will you be able to record phone calls, Apple Intelligence can transcribe them too.
Go to theNotesapp and open the folder calledCall Recordings. Click on a recording and tap’Show Transcript and Summary’to transcribe it.
Different speakers on the call will be labelled using the contact information you have in your phone, and you can tap on a sentence to hear that part of the recording.
You can also ask Apple Intelligence to generate a Summary of the call and it will highlight the key points.
If you’re more of a voice noter than a caller, this iPhone Voice Note hack will change your life.
