‘I’m a doctor – 5 approved breakfast foods that prevent bloating and gas’

Perhaps you should reevaluate your diet if you’re tired of always being bloated. Most people don’t realize the importance of gut health, which determines overall well-being.

Dealing with bloating and gas can be frustrating because it not only makes you uncomfortable from within but can also lead to a negative body image. As if that wasn’t bad enough, you may also excuse yourself to the bathroom too many times, only to return disappointed.

5 foods you should eat for breakfast to beat bloating

Dr. Joseph Salhab is a gastroenterologist based in Florida. He uses TikTok to widely talk about gut health and in one of his videos discussing bloating and gas, he reveals five foods you should eat regularly to deal with the problem.

Avocado

Avocado has several health benefits including the ability to relieve gas and bloating. Half a medium-sized avocado is filling and “bloat-friendly,” says Dr. Joseph.

It has digestive enzymes that can break down fat, too. The fruit is rich in potassium, which keeps sodium levels in check, and the high fiber content helps prevent constipation.

Sourdough bread

I can say vouch for the benefits of sourdough bread after eating it every day for a week. It contains prebiotics, is lower in gluten, and is low in fructans, which cause gas.

A study published in the National Library of Medicine states: Reducing FODMAPs through sourdough fermentation can help alleviate gastrointestinal distress in sensitive individuals.

Flatulence, abdominal pain, cramps, and stomach rumbling were all reduced after consuming low-FODMAPs rye sourdough bread.

Pineapple, papaya and kiwi

While kiwi is a common recommendation for constipation, fruits like pineapple and papaya are great for your gut health, too.

The doctor says these fruits contain natural digestive enzymes, such as bromelain in pineapple, actinidin in kiwi, and papain in papaya.

Honey

Honey is known for its probiotic properties. A recent study recommends including a spoonful of honey with your morning yogurt to ensure your gut bacteria are healthy.

If you’re fructose intolerant, the doctor recommends using maple syrup in your breakfast instead.

Mixed berries and more fruits

He recommends more fruits with “natural prebiotics” that are rich in fiber and help prevent bloating and constipation. You can go for mixed berries, green unripe bananas, and dragon fruit.
