6 ways you can easily spot an American in public, according to British people
Do you think your nationality is obvious based on how you look and act? Well, British people certainly think so about Americans.
Two Brits have gone viral on TikTok after sharing the traits they say make it really easy to spot an American in public – and Americans think they are all compliments.

6 ways you can easily spot an American in public
The pair were stopped in the street by Kjordy, an American TikTok user who lives in England and posts videos comparing the two countries. He asked how they know someone is from the US when they are out in London, and they shared five obvious characteristics that make them stand out.
1. The cap
First, they said wearing a cap is an obvious clue that a person is from America – but not just any old cap. The hat has to be resting on the very top of their head like it could fall off at any moment.
2. The happiness
Next up, if someone looks “too happy” they’re probably American. British people are “miserable,” the women argued – which makes those from the US stand out.
3. The smile
The third way to spot an American in public is a “wide, vacant smile” which stands out in a crowd. They are generally far more open with their body language.
4. The volume
Another thing that differentiates Americans is their volume when talking. They are always the loudest person in the room, which makes them easy to spot.
5. The clothes
Americans also tend to wear bright and crisp clothing. The women told the interviewer: “Your jeans are bright. Your hat is bright. Your shirt is pure white.”
6. The presence
Finally, Americans “take up a lot of space on the street with their presence,” while British people tend to keep themselves to themselves.
‘This felt like a compliment’
In the comments, Americans are thanking the British women for sharing a list of compliments.
One person wrote: “This felt like a compliment.”
“Youre taking up a bunch of space like on the street with your presence. Why thank you,” said another.
A third person added: “Deadass just all compliments.”
“If too happy is my identifier, Im good with that,” someone else said.
Another wrote: “All I heard was that we got aura and good vibes.”
